A Direct Path to Argentine Citizenship for Global Investors
Argentina has created a special investment-based route to naturalization for qualifying foreign investors and their families, without the ordinary two-year prior residence requirement.
More than a second passport
Argentina combines international mobility, regional access and a direct investment-based citizenship route within a major Latin American jurisdiction.
Global Mobility
Argentine citizens enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to approximately 170 destinations, including short-stay access to the Schengen Area.
MERCOSUR Access
Argentine nationality provides important mobility and residence advantages throughout much of South America.
No Prior Two-Year Residence
Qualifying applicants may seek citizenship regardless of the length of their prior residence under the special investment provision.
Family Applications
The announced program structure allows spouses and qualifying children to be included.
No Automatic Tax Residence
Obtaining citizenship through a relevant investment does not, by itself, make the applicant an Argentine tax resident.
Argentine Legal Counsel
The process combines citizenship law, due diligence, financial transparency and administrative procedure before Argentine authorities.
Contribution or government security
The Argentine Government announced two principal financial routes on 2 October 2026. Final operational regulations and bond terms remain pending.
National Treasury Contribution
- Direct contribution to the Argentine National Treasury.
- The contributed capital is not recoverable.
- Additional announced contributions apply to qualifying family members.
- Simple and transparent economic structure.
Argentine Government Security
- Subscription to a government security created for the program.
- Capital remains represented by a financial asset rather than a donation.
- Maturity, coupon, holding period and redemption terms are still pending.
- The economic attractiveness will depend on the final instrument terms.
Treasury Contribution Route: family of four example
Under Route A — the non-refundable Treasury Contribution, a principal applicant, spouse and two children under 18 would have announced contributions totaling USD 500,000.
The Government has also announced a USD 100,000 contribution for an unmarried child aged 18–25 with no children. This example applies only to Route A. The final treatment of family members under the USD 800,000 government-security route remains subject to implementing rules.
| Principal applicant | USD 350,000 |
| Spouse | USD 100,000 |
| Minor child | USD 25,000 |
| Minor child | USD 25,000 |
The headline investment is not necessarily the all-in cost
The Government has announced the principal investment amounts, while several ancillary costs have not yet been officially published.
Already announced

- USD 100,000 spouse contribution.

A legal, financial and due-diligence process
The application combines investment qualification with identity, source-of-funds, criminal, immigration and national-security review.
Eligibility Review
Applicant, family structure, intended route and potential legal or compliance issues are reviewed.
Build the File
Identity, civil-status, professional, banking, tax and wealth documentation is organized.
Relevant Investment
The competent Agency determines whether the qualifying investment requirement is met.
Government Due Diligence
Financial intelligence, security, criminal-record, identity and other government checks are conducted.
Agency Report
The Agency submits a reasoned recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration.
Citizenship Decision
Migration has 30 business days after receiving the Agency’s report to issue its decision.
Citizenship does not, by itself, make the investor an Argentine tax resident
Argentine tax law expressly separates investment-based naturalization from tax residence. Other statutory residence tests may still apply depending on the applicant’s actual circumstances.
